T-28 Trojan

The North American Aviation T-28 Trojan was a basic, single piston-engined military trainer aircraft used by the United States Air Force and United States Navy beginning in the 1950s.

It was built in three variants, the T-28A for the Air Force, and T-28B and T-28C for the U.S. Navy, with the latter version designed for carrier operation. It was the first trainer designed to transition pilots from piston to jet aircraft.

Besides its use as a trainer, the T-28 was used as a counter-insurgency aircraft during the Vietnam War. It has continued in civilian use as an aerobatics and warbird performer, such as those shown in the photos below on this page. Some versions of the T-28 were adapted to more extensive military operations by other countries.

When production ended, 1,194 T-28As had been delivered to the Air Force. The Navy ordered 792 T-28s, 299 of which were T-28Cs that included an arrester hook for carrier landings.
